NEIGHBORHOOD NEEDS A JAZZ FESTIVAL
Stephen Hanks, a walking tour guide, heard stories from his 86 yr old dad about his memories of several historic Jazz clubs during the 1940’s-1960’s in an underserved Portland Oregon neighborhood called “Albina”, but that the city bulldozed the clubs down to build a freeway and sports coliseum. Many residents were forced to move, many lost their homes. The Albina community neighborhood has suffered much over the decades from “urban renewal” and discrimination. Stephen’s dream is to hold a Jazz Festival to pay tribute to this neighborhood and preserve its Jazz music history. Your support will mean so much to Stephen while his dad is still alive to see a festival bring back the memories of the early Jazz scene. Stephen’s parents once had their own Jazz club before the city made them move out. The Albina Jazz Festival, a non-profit public benefit, needs funding immediately to fund this non-profit public benefit, pay for permits, equipment, musicians, and have something left to make this an annual tradition for Albina neighborhood. The Albina Jazz Festival will be so grateful for your support to help preserve this forgotten part of ALBINA neighborhood, and several old timers who remember those days when they lost their homes are still alive and will be so grateful also to see a festival in honor of them!
